A rare bottle of whisky distilled in 1883 and bottled in 1931 has been sold at auction at Bonhams in Edinburgh. The Glenlivet was originally owned by Captain William Smith Grant, great-grandson of Col George Smith, who founded the Glenlivet Distillery near Ballindalloch, Banffshire, and had been in the family since. It recently sold for £18,750 [NZ$37,726], including buyer’s premium.

Welcome to Whisky Galore online

66 Victoria Street is the address of our new physical store, but we're always up and running here online. The shelving in the shop holds nearly 750 whiskies, most of which you will see online here. While we're proud to carry a lot of different whiskies, it's not the amount you have that really matters - we take great pride in our service, expertise and passion for all things whisky, and it is always our intention to exceed our previous efforts in offering you the "dram of your dreams".

We all have a new spring in our step and we look forward to dealing with you, be it in the new store, online or on the phone. Keep an eye on the newsletters as we roll out whisky from our various sources and to say that we are excited does not even cover it!

Our selection is constantly expanding, and we're always looking to broaden our whisky horizons, so if you have a suggestion, a request or question about whisky, you are most welcome to contact us at info@whiskygalore.co.nz or on 0800 WHISKY (944759).

Yours in the very highest of spirits,

Michael Fraser Milne
