A limited edition bottle of Kilchoman Distillery’s first ever single malt from cask number one, filled in December 2005, was sold at auction for a staggering £5,400. The winning bid was made by Niels Ladefoged, originally from Denmark and who lives in the UK. The bottle of the three year old single malt has a unique design and is the only one of its kind. All proceeds of the auction will go to Islay charities.

The Whisky Galore store will be releasing the first bottling from Kilchoman before Christmas 2009.

Previous news

Glen Scotia is one of only two distilleries in Campbeltown, the other being Springbank, where once there were over thirty distilleries. First registered in 1835, it was overhauled in the early 1980's.

In 1994, Glen Scotia was sold to Glen Catrine Bonded Warehouse, the sister company of the present owner. The distillery was put on sale in 1996 and is currently working part time.

Glen Scotia is small, has the appearance of a good townhouse, and is reputed to be haunted by a previous owner who drowned himself in Campbeltown Loch after being swindled.

Glen Scotia 1992 Berry Brothers and Rudd

A quirky, herbal whisky with a sea-salt dryness, along with very peppery smoke. An intruiging dram.
