David Woodhouse
David Woodhouse and his good wife were going to pop into the shop last year (07) while in NZ from England to visit their daughters who live in Tuaranga and Christchurch.
However on their way here David got deep vein thrombosis and Mrs. Woodhouse fell ill (seriously) not long after their return to England without ever getting to NZ.
The good news is they are both fit and well now and made it here this year. David is a serious embidder of the amber fluid and 15 years ago with friends purchased a new fill of Springank. They bottled some a few years ago and now have the 15 year old version available distilled in 1992, bottled last year from Cask No. 315 at 55.6% abv.
David popped in this January (08) opened one of his precious bottles and offered up a dram, who am I to refuse. This 2nd fill Hogshead Springbok at 15 years has come up quite fruity, still got that Springbank whiff of smoke and sea and a hugely dry after palate, good medium to long finish.
Anyone who brings us a dram such as this is a "Whisky Hero".
