Whiskies of Campbeltown

An intriguing release from Duncan Taylor, as this Campbeltown blended malt expression is displayed with a cask reference number. A blend of only malt whiskies from the Campbeltown region of Scotland, this whisky has been presented at cask strength and offers notes of classic Campbeltown sea air, barley sugars and ripe pineapples and bursts of fresh zesty citrus.

To celebrate the 2024 Campbeltown Malts Festival Glen Scotia have released this unpeated 9 year old Single Malt Scotch Whisky, which has been maturing for a minimum of 6 months in Fino sherry casks. There are notes of citrus, orchard fruits and Campbeltown's distinctive maritime quality.

A sibling to the classic Double Cask from Glen Scotia, this new expression sees the distillery's unpeated spirit matured initially in American oak barrels, before spending a final 6 months in ex-Demerara rum casks. The initial aroma is like boiling sugar for sweeties, with a soft molasses and tropical fruit character. A maritime note of sea-spray adds a lifting salinity that shifts to wood spices in the finish.

Situated at the foot of the Kintyre peninsula in the historic whisky producing region of Campbeltown, Glen Scotia has had a bit of a make-over of late with the release of three impressive new expressions. The 'Double Cask' is Finished in a selection of first fill bourbon and Pedro Ximenez sherry casks. The nose is an intriguing combination of rich fudge, fresh orchard fruit and a sort of dusty earthy note that is quite typical of the distillery. Oily on the palate with rich vanilla and more fudge, it has a slight briny character with a touch of warming spiced fruit developing.

Taking inspiration from the Campbeltown Market Cross and the characters emblazoned on it, this release is named for the iconic maritime myth, the Mermaid. Made from unpeated barley and finished in Palo Cortado ex-sherry casks, this is a drier, floral and decidedly coastal expression. A swirling nose of dry seaweed, sea salt gives way to rich apple tart with caramel. The finish is long and with a savoury , coastal undertone.

The Mull of Kintyre boasts a proud history in the art of Whisky production. Regarded as the Victorian World Whisky capital, Campbeltown was a bustling centre for whisky trade in the Victorian era. Today, only three distilleries stand in the "Wee Toon," with Glen Scotia being one of them. The Victoriana, bottled at natural cask strength and without colouring or chill filtration, is Glen Scotia's modern interpretation of a classic Victorian era Campbeltown whisky. The Victoriana is a very approachable introduction to the distillery style, quite fruity in nature with citrus hints and plenty of woody spice. They have finished off maturation in charred oak casks imparting an rich caramel vanilla and cocoa characteristic. Being bottled straight from the cask at 54.2%, a wee splash of water can really soften and develop those fruity notes.

This brand-new expression from the Glen Scotia distillery was made entirely from unpeated barley and matured for 10 years in ex-bourbon American oak casks. The distillery's home by the sea brings a maritime character to the aroma, with sea-spray saltiness. Flavours of sweet apple, brown sugar and mellow spices join in, with a creme caramel / vanilla'd tone from the wood. A great introduction to one of the most acclaimed distilleries in Scotland.

This particular release is fully matured in specially selected American oak barrels for 15 long years in their Campbeltown warehouses before bottling. Delicate apricot and vanilla aromas develop towards a zesty fruit salad and subtle coastal note. On the palate there are intricate hints of ginger and spice which are complimented by rich vanilla and fruity notes. Adding water brings out caramelised fruit elements with a slightly drying finish.

A new addition to the Glen Scotia range, this 21 year old has been matured in refill American oak casks before a final six month finishing period in ex-Oloroso sherry casks. A sweet, salty and spicy combination to start, with baked red apples, vanilla and toffee all joining a tang of sea-side warehouses, earthy & elemental. More exotic baking spices come through, adding an earthy and woody depth.

This 25 year old whisky from Glen Scotia distillery perfectly represents the Campbeltown region. This Glen Scotia has been aged for 25 years in American oak casks, which has produced a whisky that is fresh with a touch of sweetness, balanced out by a hint of sea spray and a wisp of smoke. Beautifully represented in a tall elegant bottle matched by a wooden box, this whisky truly has a bit of everything to offer.

Glengyle distillery, founded by the owners of the Springbank, has been making a traditional Campbeltown style of whisky for over 20 years. The nose and palate are both distinctly 'Campbeltown' - slightly foosty (dusty old warehouses) and spiced to start, with hints of dried fruit, malt biscuits and warm, campfire toasted marshmallow. A gentle waft of peat smoke and oilyness comes from the barley, with dry, sea-side saltiness. A distinctive style of whisky that is old-fashioned but timeless.

The Springbank distillery remains one of the most iconic and sought-after in the world, with collectors and drinkers alike seeking out this distinctive Campbeltown single malt. This expression offers an incredibly rare opportunity to try an independently bottled Springbank, selected by Elixir Distillers under their Director's Special range. Matured for 25 years in a single refill bourbon barrel, the cask yielded only 142 bottles.

Laid down in 1989, this is a very rare example of an independent bottling from the iconic Springbank distillery. Produced from a single refill ex-Oloroso sherry butt, filled on 10/03/1989 cask 14/03/1 sat untouched for 35 years before being selected by Andrew Symington, owner and renowned 'nose' of Signatory Vintage.

This is among the rarest expressions we have had from Signatory, and one of only a tiny handful of independent whiskies produced at Springbank, with 345 bottles produced worldwide, just two of these made their way to New Zealand.
