Whiskies of Campbeltown

At the southern end of the Mull of Kintyre sits Campbeltown, once regarded as "The Whisky Capital of the World", due to the number of distilleries based there. Today there are only 3 distilleries operational in the town - Glengyle (Kilkerran), Springbank and Glen Scotia.

The Campbeltown style is broad and distinctive through all types, from light and delicate through to heavily peated and rich. There is often a briney note in these whiskies, and a character to that is best described by the Scots themselves: foosty, like the musty, earthy smell of warehouses, and old wood.
