Glenrothes

This 11 year old Glenrothes is an excellent addition to the Gordon & MacPhail 'Discovery' range. An example of everything you'd want from a sherry cask matured whisky; on the nose there is a distinctive note reminiscent of a box of Sun-Maid raisins and rich toffee. To taste, raspberries and blackberries mingle with hints of cinnamon and charred oak. This whisky boasts a beautifully creamy mouthfeel with a lingering finish of butterscotch sauce, milk chocolate and a suggestion of orange.

Another fantastic entry into the Single Malts of Scotland impressive ‘A Marriage of Casks’ series. This is a marriage of two casks from Glenrothes distillery, from vintages that range from 1989 and 1990, they include a single hogshead cask and sherry butt. The nose is full of jammy notes and leather. Blackcurrants, juicy raisins and sticky dates sit alongside maraschino cherries, malt loaf and fruity dark chocolate. Intensely rich palate, everything you want from a heavy Glenrothes. Stewed plums are dusted with charcoal, sweet and sour cherries, molasses and soft oak spice. Ginger cake and chocolate-covered crystallised ginger provide a backbone of sweetness countered by rich riverbank earth. The finish is that of polished oak, sticky jam and allspice mixed with brown sugar.

Matured entirely in first fill sherry seasoned casks before being specially selected by Master Whisky Maker Gordon Motion for the new Glenrothes Soleo range. Bottled at 48.8%, this higher, complimentary strength is Gordon Motions 'preferred cut' and really showcases the trademark Glenrothes sherry casks style. Candied orange peel and fresh oak aromas are complimented by a rich and creamy palate with more of that orange peel note developing alongside toffee and dried fruit. Long and fruity on the finish with hints of lingering nutmeg.

Matured entirely in sherry seasoned oak casks, this 12 year old expression from The Glenrothes distillery in Speyside is part of their new look Soleo collection. Fragrant banana, dried fruits, vanilla and butterscotch on the nose follows through to the palate along with lemon, fresh melon and a cinnamon spice. Long and sweet on the finish with more of that light spice developing. A very smooth, rich and well balanced dram which whisky maker, Gordon Motion describes as The Glenrothes 'House Style'.
