The Highland region of Scotland is in terms of area, the biggest whisky producing region. It extends from the Orkney Islands in the far North, down to just above Edinburgh and Glasgow. The Highland region currently has around 39 active and producing distillery along with several defunct distilleries that have closed over the years. The Highland style incredibly diverse, traversing from light, delicate and floral flavours through to the hearty and robust style many associate with this part of the country.
