Hazelburn's 2018 bottling of their 'sherry wood' release has arrived, this triple-distilled Springbank has been matured for 13 years in oloroso sherry butts. The nose has a surprising soft edge of smoke, before moving quickly to a very creamy and rich flavour - dark chocolate, ginger snaps and a floral (rose petal) note. Also of note, a prevailing scent of old sea-side dunnage warehouses - whisky casks maturing and exposed earth are hallmarks of the distillery style. The flavour is wonderfully rich, with strawberries and fresh cream, strawberry jam along with marzipan and walnuts. To finish, brown sugar, dates and toffee - all together quite decadent and lush, with coffee liqueur, vanilla and black pepper to finish.
