This latest release from The Elements of Islay comes from the Lagavulin distillery, selected from casks that have matured for 14 years. This fine old Lagavulin shows a generous helping of coastal character and a creamy, savoury tone. The nose is initially chewy with toffee before dried seaweed and cured meats come through alongside coastal peat smoke. The palate is meaty again, pancetta served with cracked pepper, pear-chutney and freshly shucked oysters. The finish is punchy and long-lingering, with lots of earthy smoke. A rare cask-strength treat for lovers of Lagavulin.
