Mortlach distillery hardly needs an introduction, suffice to say that it is one of the most unusual, and sought after Speyside malts. The distillery operates a form of distillation that is quite unique, employing a third still named 'Wee witchy' followed by condensing in wormtubs.
This archaic method produces a heavy, meaty and sulphury make that can stand up to any cask imaginable and still shine through.
In this case maturation in a pair of wine casks has brought dried fruits, figs and buttery pastry. On the palate Mortlach?s signature nature shines through cured meats, grassiness, spice. The finish rounds out the whole, chocolaty, with a touch of citrus.
