There are only two distilleries on the Orkney Isles; Highland Park, and Scapa. The former is known for it's slightly smokey style, and the latter for fresh fruitiness. The origins of this expression have not been disclosed, and are open to speculation. This bottling was filled from a single refill hogshead, giving impressive colour. On the nose it's immediately maritime, with sea salt and a very gentle waft of smoke. On the palate the smoke intensifies, becoming quite phenolic, leading to toffee and spice. The finish continues with the peat, sweeter now alongside citrus peel.
