St Magdalene 'Gordon & MacPhail' 1982 / 2015 46%
Product Description

Region: Lowland

Strength: 46%

Volume: 700ml

The St Magdalene distillery, also known as Linlithgow is situated in the village of the same name, between Edinburgh and Glasgow. St Magdalene was one of the oldest distilleries in the Lowland's, founded in 1797 and rather sadly closed in 1983. The site is now a small housing complex, and the only visible sign of the distillery left is the pagoda roof in one section. Wonderfully aromatic and quintessentially Lowland in style, St Magdalene is a delicate and citric malt with orange, lemon, pear and a subtle beeswax and marzipan flavour. A gem of a dram all but lost to time, this release just 431 bottles worldwide.

We think this incredibly rare bottling is the first example of Carsebridge we've had here at Whisky Galore. The distillery dates back to the 1700s, initially producing malt whisky before moving to grain after a few decades and by 1980 it was the biggest distillery in Scotland. Unfortunately just a few years later it become one of the victims of ...
