Torabhaig 'Sound of Sleat' 46%
The latest release from Torabhaig, pronounced slate, is aged solely in heavily toasted American oak casks and made with the distillery's strongly peated 78ppm barley. In the glass, it opens with rich bonfire smoke carried on a base of sweet barley, with touches of perfumed orange and honey. There is a nutty and rubbery touch with roasted nuts and and more umami (savoury) notes, with salty seaweed emerging with time. Carried on a weighty and oily mouthfeel, thick with peat smoke, tart apricot and white pepper come through in the finish.
