The Teeling Whiskey Company was founded by Jack Teeling, son of John Teeling who was the founder of the Cooley distillery in 1987. The Teeling family are currently bottling whiskey's from Cooley, and this first release is a small batch of casks that have been bottled at 46% without chill filtration or colouring. Uniquely for an Irish Whiskey, it has been finished in rum barrels for an extra tweak of sweetness and spice.
This 13 year old release from Teeling has been matured initially in ex-bourbon casks and then in ex-Bordeaux Red Wine Casks. It has been made with a mash bill of 95% corn and 5% malted barley that has been triple distilled.
This release is part of the Wonders of Wood series from Teeling. It consists of 50% malted barley and 50% unmalted barley, which has then been matured in virgin Chinkapin American white oak casks. Notes of toffee and butterscotch are found on the nose, which develops into notes of banana bread, ginger and a cream soda. The finish has notes of wood spice , dark chocolate and black pepper.
This is the first single malt release from the Teeling Whisky Company and their Dublin distillery, the city's first new whiskey in over 125 years. It has a vibrant nose, with notes of melon, fig and toffee. The taste is balanced with flavours of dried fruits, citrus, vanilla and sweet spice, finishing with a mellow, sweet oaky character.
