Port Ruighe (pronounced Port Ree) is Talisker's port cask finished whisky. Named after the main town on the Isle of Skye. The port casks bring a richer edge to Talisker, bringing a sweet jammy fruitiness, milk chocolate and salted caramel which compliments the coastal peppery peat-smoke Talisker is known for.
A finish in a combination of White, Tawny and Ruby port casks gives this classically costal and peaty island dram a warming spicy and rich characteristic.
The nose is spiced and mellow with notes of spiced fruit bread and stewed dates make way for a clean maritime character, with the faintest whiff of peat.
On the palate there are sweet notes of boozy stewed fruits, becoming salty and peppery as it develops. Gunpower smoke dominates the palate towards the end.
The finish is of good length, spicy and peppery intensifying towards the end.
This whisky from Talisker is a combination of toasted and refill American oak casks and has been bottled at 45.8%. It has gentle smoky notes, brininess and uplifting burst of citrus.
