Tomatin

Filled from casks that were laid down at the Tomatin distillery in 2009, this new 'Discovery' release from G&M sees the exclusive use of American oak ex-bourbon barrels to produce a sweet and smooth single malt. The nose is intense with honey and fragrant pear, with a background note of spring blossoms. The palate is fruity with melon and white peach, leading to vanilla custard and a herbal finish that builds softly with oak spice.

Cu Bocan is the name given to the peated spirit made at the Tomatin distillery, offering a gentle smokyness an addition to the traditional honeyed, soft fruit, citrus and treacle character of Tomatin. Matured in a combination of ex-bourbon, ex-sherry and virgin oak casks.

Matured in a combination of ex-Bourbon barrels and sherry casks, the 12 year old Tomatin is soft, fruity and nutty. Aromas and hints of flavours of apple, pear are carried along an oily mouthfeel and lingering finish. A very gentle and pleasant Highland single malt from the Tomatin distillery.

The new Tomatin 18 year old is matured in a combination of casks, most importantly first-fill Oloroso sherry casks which contribute dark chocolate, dried fruit flavours and a drying, oaky-spiced aftertaste. Tomatin is always a soft and gentle dram, making this a great introduction to the complex flavours found in old Highland single malt whiskies.

The Tomatin distillery rather cleverly markets itself as the 'softer side to the Highland's, and this newly packaged expression called 'Legacy' demonstrates this well. Matured in ex-bourbon casks and virgin American oak barrels, this is sweet and soft all the way with notes of vanilla, marshmallow, candy sweetness and apple fruityness.
