This special release from the now closed grain distillery has been maturing for 40 years in select American oak casks. This whisky has creamy notes and soft fruits on the nose. This develops into notes of baking, pastry and gentle cinnamon. The finish is soft with a fragrant finish.
Selected for the 2nd 'Rare Casks' release from Glenglassaugh, this 42 year old single cask was distilled in 1972. Master distiller Billy Walker writes of a classic Glenglassaugh flavours - rich honey infused with allspice, roasted apples, a medley of syrupy fruit (pears, sultanas) and a deliciate, aromatic wood spice. Old whiskies from Glenglassaugh are amongst the very finest whiskies available from the Highland's, and 1972 is a year that exemplifies this style.
Distilled at the long-lost Convalmore of Dufftown, this single cask bottling from Gordon & MacPhail is a rare example of the distitillery which closed in 1985. Bottled from a single refill American oak Hogshead cask, after 46 years of maturing the yeild was just 138 bottles.Since its closure, there have been just a small number of releases from the distillery, making it one of the most rare and elusive of all the closed producers in Scotland.
At the time of its release in 2006, this was the oldest Lagavulin ever bottled. There were two releases of this bottling, and this is the UK / Europe release bottled at 52.6% cask strength. Distilled in 1976 and selected from just a handful of casks yielding 2340 bottles, this is widely regarded as one of the very best releases from the distillery. Though Lagavulin was in full production at the time, few casks remain from the 70's and both collectors and whisky enthuiasts seek out these rare gems.
