Croftengea 'Infrequent Flyers' 2005 / 19 years old 54.5%
Croftengea is the name given to a particular style of spirit produced at Loch Lomond, distilled from heavily peated barley. Matured for 19 years in total, the final 5 years of maturation was in an ex-Moscatel wine hogshead, imparting a rich flavour of ripe orchard fruits. Opening with a creamy vanilla custard and marzipan, the peat is revealed as a delicate note of iodine and sweet smoke. On the palate, the orchard fruits come through strongly, with a prevalent spicyness. The peat lingers in the background, mellowed with time.
