A rich, heavily fruity nose (Christmas cake, dates) and palate that has elements of dark chocolate and oak notes, in particular a clove & pepper spice. At 60% this is still a very drinkable dram, but it really opens up and excels with a generous splash of water. The recipe for this Hankey Bannister is an inspired recreation of an original bottling of Hankey Bannister made from between 1924 and 1928. Full, sweet and rich with hints of Christmas cake and a delicate hint of smoke, harking back to a time when blends were often more robust - a spirit of true character.
