New Zealand's growing whisky industry also features here, from the now-closed Willowbank distillery in Dunedin (1951-1997) through to the Thomson Whisky Company in Auckland and Workshops Whisky from right here in Christchurch. The biggest whisky distillery in New Zealand is the family-owned Cardrona, whose spirit first ran in November 2015.
Amrut 'Fusion' 50%
This multi award winning expession from Amrut Distillery gets its name from the fact it uses barley from two locations - India and Scotland. The Scottish barley is peated, which combines with the local barley to produce a dram with gentle peat characteristics, rich oak flavours with a long and lingering finish.
Amrut 'Intermediate Sherry' 57.1%
This new release from Amrut Distillery is named 'Intermediate Sherry' as it spent a around a year in Sherry casks inbetween maturation in Bourbon barrels. There are notes of Turkish delights, rose water and orange marmalade which developes on the palate along with a well balanced sweet spice character in the background.
Amrut Greedy Angels 50%
From the Indian distillery, Amrut, this whisky is bottled at 50%. The nose has a slight saltiness to it which moves into notes of blood oranges, gentle spices and vanilla. On the palate notes of barley and vanilla are there with slightly spiced cocoa and honey. The orange returns to the finish, again, with a slight spiciness.

Amrut Portonova Single Malt 62.1%
This Amrut has interestingly spent the first part of its life maturing in new American oak and ex-bourbon barrels, before moving it to refill port pipes and then back into ex-bourbon. 'Essentially a port pipe sandwich' is how they describe it.The result is a rich and fruity dram with notes of jammy fruits, cocoa and oaky caramel.
