Bearing the name of a native to the island, The Hearach is the first legal whisky produced on the Isle of Harris, made by its people and of its environment.
Known as "the social distillery", they strive to create sustainable local employment for future generations.

The Hearach 46%
We are proud to launch the first ever whisky from the Isle of Harris Distillery, the long-awaited The Hearach. The aroma evokes a curing smokehouse, joined by fragrant hillside heather and smoky dried prunes. A creamy sweetness, like that of creme brulee, joins crisp apple fruity tones, with a lingering sea-salt tang left on the lips. The subtle smoke returns in the finish, a beautiful whiff of a peaty fireplace slowly burning down.
A remarkable achievement for all on the island, this whisky is a testament to the hard work of everyone involved and we are delighted to finally share it with New Zealand.
Please note: we are not currently able to ship this whisky outside of New Zealand.

people & place
The emphasis on people throughout the production process also serves to create employment that would otherwise be lost in a more 'push-button' operation.
Using unusually soft water from Abhainn Cnoc a'Charrain, and Scottish barley, their spirit is slowly distilled through their pair of 'dancing stills' before being matured on the island, leaving only once it has been bottled at the distillery.
