Whiskies of The Lowlands

Chosen from a single ex-bourbon cask, this new expression offers a glimpse in to the hard work that has been taking place at Annandale since the distillery re-opened in 2014. Founded in 1830 in the Lowland's of Scotland, Annandale distillery remained operational until its closure in 1918. Used as a farm up until 2007, and after nearly 7 years of work, was re-opened in 2014. This release comes from a single cask distilled in 2018 from unpeated barley, and was matured in an ex-bourbon barrel. Chocolate coated hokey pokey and buttery crumbed plum or rhubarb pudding join wild honey tones throughout. A welcome addition to our ever-growing Lowland whisky region.

Founded in 1830 in the Lowland's of Scotland, Annandale distillery remained operational until its closure in 1918. This release comes from a single cask distilled in 2016 from unpeated barley, and was matured in an ex-sherry butt. A classic Lowland citric quality can be found to start, with preserved and freshly zested orange notes joining Christmasy dried fruit and chocolate dipped malt biscuits.  

The first independently bottled expression of Annandale we have seen since its rebirth in 2014, This seven year old example was bottled by Glasgow based bottlers North Star Spirits.  Distilled in 2015, before being laid down to mature in a single Oloroso Sherry Butt. The result is a soft mellow and rather sweet dram with elements of spun sugar, boozy fruit cake and gentle spice on the nose, followed along by notes of sticky date pudding, spicy gingerbread and wafts of freshly cracked black pepper on the palate.  The spices linger on the finish with wafts of sweet Christmas spices accompanied by sweet chewy caramel.

Distilled at Annandale distillery in 2016, using heavily peated barley. This expression was bottled in 2023 from a single ex Oloroso sherry Butt. 

The nose offers notes of treacle, sweet smoke and spiced baked apples.  The Oloroso casks have imparted a flavour of sweet spice, orange peel and heather honey.  The use of peated barley brings a sweet smoky note which lingers on the finish.

The second heavily peated expression from Annandale to arrive on our shelves, this bottling is an exciting reminder of an often forgotten style of whisky.

Matured in first fill American oak casks, this all new Auchentoshan is true to the Lowland, triple distilled style - vanilla, coconut and layers of citrus fruit lead the nose and palate, with a sweetness that develops into a drying grapefruit and spice finish.

This Auchentoshan Lowland Single Malt Whisky has been matured in three different cask types. Moving from American Bourbon to Spanish Oloroso Sherry - and finally Pedro Ximenez Sherry casks - Three Wood is a rich whisky with toffee and sherry oak flavours.

One of the few remaining distilleries in the Lowlands of Scotland, Auchentoshan is tripple distilled which contributes to its light yet complex nose and palate, offering up toasted almonds, hints of citrus (mandarin) and fresh grass and a rounded caramalised toffee mouthfeel. An excellent dram to get the evening started.

Alinta, an indigenous Australian word from several Southeast Australian language groups means ‘fire’ and ‘flames’. This expression has been bottled from a selection of  Pedro Ximminez Sherry and ex-bourbon casks which were married with peated spirit, a first from Bladnoch distillery. There are sweet smoky campfire notes along with white chocolate coated raisins, sugared almonds, sweet oak and light floral notes.  

Matured in a combination of ex-bourbon barrels and new oak casks, this brand-new expression from Bladnoch shows the very pretty distillery style: sweet, floral and orchard fruity. The new oak brings rich vanilla and toasted flavours, with caramelised apple and freshly cut wood. Bottled at a strength of 52.2%, selected by their Master Distiller.

This expression from Bladnoch combines some of the distilleries oldest casks.

Bottled from a slecection of ex Oloroso casks and American Oak Californian Red Wine casks, this whisky has a sweet and rich nose, with floral grassy notes, sweet oak and rich blackcurrants

The  palate is rich and inviting, with buttery toffee notes, grated fresh ginger and coffee creme.

The finish carries the sweet toffee notes, balancing perfectly with a slight peppery note.

Vinaya is the latest release from the Bladnoch distillery, created by master distiller Dr. Nick Savage from a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks and shows the classic character of this old Lowland single malt. The nose shows the sweet floral and buttery profile of the distillery, with a green apple freshness and touch of chocolate on the palate. The the finish is light and uplifting.

This expression from Bladnoch has been matured for 13 years in a parcel of hand selected ex-Bourbon barrels, resulting in a wonderful, light floral and sweet expression. There are notes of floral honey, freshly cut grass, juicy zesty citrus, fresh apples and touches of oaky spice. 

This 16 year old expression from Bladnoch distillery has been bottled from a parcel of Oloroso Sherry casks. The result is a rich, full bodied and slightly spicy dram, with notes of fruitcake, sweet cinnamon spice, dark chocolate stewed sultanas and zesty orange peel.

Produced at Scotland's southernmost distillery, this 30 year old is one of the oldest expressions seen from Bladnoch. Made from just two casks, one ex-Oloroso sherry and one ex-Moscatel, this is an exceptional example of the distillery style: floral notes with dried apricots and nutmeg, with rich almond and marzipan flavour along with Seville oranges, the finish is surprisingly light and fruity with a hint of cracked black pepper. One of just 950 bottles produced.

Produced by independent bottlers Elixir Distillers, this series forms part of a mutli-year release inspired by Shakespear's iconic play, Macbeth. Each bottling is named and inspired by one of the iconic characters of the play, and includes a label bearing the work of internationally renowned artist Sir Quentin Blake.

Distilled at the now-defunct Cambus distillery which closed in 1993, this 31 year old is a rare example of this single grain Scotch whisky. Citric and cocnutty to start, there is an abundance of oaky notes here, fresh and lively rather than dry and tannic. Coconut pana cotta comes to mind, with quite a delicate character overall. Beautiful whisky from an appropriately 'ghost' distillery.

This special release from the now closed grain distillery has been maturing for 40 years in select American oak casks. This whisky has creamy notes and soft fruits on the nose. This develops into notes of baking, pastry and gentle cinnamon. The finish is soft with a fragrant finish.

Maturing from 26 years in refill American Oak casks, this whisky has been bottled at 56.2%. Cameronbridge distillery is a grain distillery located in the Lowland region of Scotland. The initial notes found in the whisky are of subtle spice, with savory, hard toffee and gentle oak. The finish is smooth and sweet with notes of caramel toffee balanced with an oaky dryness.

Light, honeyed and with a delicate hint of spice, the Glenkinchie distillery is one of the few remaining Lowland distilleries in Scotland. Situated just outside of Edinburgh, and indeed known as the 'Edinburgh Malt', it is one of the countries most visited distilleries. A fantastic starting point for those new to the pleasures of single malt Scotch whisky.

Inverleven was the name of a 'distillery within a distillery' at the grain producer Dumbarton, situated just north east of Glasgow. The malt whisky by this name was produced in pot stills, but with no official release, its use was primarily relegated to blends, resulting in scant few casks available since its closure in 1991. Matured for 32 years in a single refill bourbon barrels yielding just 91 bottles, it has produced a whisky of dark honey and seville orange peel flavours, with dried banana and toast almond flaouvrs. A unique note of crystallised violets lingers gently in the finish.

From the brand new Lindores Distillery, the historical home of Scotch whisky, comes this limited bottling from their ’The Casks of Lindores’ series. Bottled entirely from ex-bourbon casks, this fresh, summery dram opens with juicy orchard fruits, creamy butterscotch, vanilla and a touch of citrus on the nose. Fresh apples turned into baked apple pie on the palate, with tart marmalade and soft hints of oak and peppery spice. Spritely and silky, this is the perfect Lowland sipper.

Bottled entirely from Oloroso sherry butts, this dram offers an enticing nose of mellow fruity prunes, dates, molasse, touches of vanilla and milk chocolate. These rich dessert aromas turn to a burst of Autumn on the palate, with dried fruits and dark chocolate layered in ginger, chestnuts, cinnamon and walnuts. Silky and sweet on the finish, this whisky is the perfect revival of the classic Lowland style.

From the brand new Lindores Distillery, the historical home of Scotch whisky, comes this limited bottling from their ’The Casks of Lindores’ series. Bottled entirely from Spanish STR (Shaved, Toasted and Re-Charred) wine barriques, this dram opens with a burst of apricot jam and buttery pastries served with custard and a dusting of cinnamon. This evolves into a lovely balance of sweetness and spice, with plums, red berries and treacle contrasting cinnamon bark and soft wood notes. Honey sweetness and fresh spices carry through the finish, rounding off this refreshing dram.

This brand new single malt hails from the spiritual home of Scotch whisky, Lindores Abbey in the Kingdom of Fife. Founded in 2017, Lindores Abbey has its roots firmly in the past, the site dates back to 1494 with the first recorded mention of malted barley being used to produce aqua vitae. Using locally grown barley, the team are making a whisky that has a mellow vanilla, fruity, vibrant and buttery flavour with citrus touches and a hint of pepper from the wood.
